7 Quick Takes (Vol 201)

7_quick_takes_sm1

The rain is falling. The day is dreary. No wonder I am so sleepy and weary. There is your poem for the day. Don’t you feel uplifted! Fine! You know the Friday routine. When you are done covering yourself with a gloom repelling layer of my blather you are to click on the picture above to be whisked, at the speed of a falling bottle of yogurt about to hit a concrete floor, over to Conversion Diary to see what’s been happening.

Punxsatawney Phil says there is no end of blather in sight.

1.
This week has been one of those weeks where I have been out at a meeting or gathering three nights out of five. And if you add in the Super Bowl Foodapalooza at LaurenLeap’s house then that makes four out of six.

No wonder the week went so quickly.

2.
I am still mourning the loss of that ENTIRE jar of homemade vanilla yogurt. Despite spending a great deal of time cleaning the garage floor I am having to guard it from Max’s attentions.

And the yogurt debacle also means that I have to work in a yogurt making session some time next week. In actual production time it isn’t that bad but there is the whole heating the milk up to the correct temp and then holding it there for 10 minutes as well as getting the big cooler out and filling it with hot tap water and sterilizing the jars and the lids and putting ice and water in the other sink to cool the milk down to just the right temperature and all the other stuff that needs to be done.

But I am in a “I must have a smoothie every day” phase of life so this must be done.

I am spoiled for any other form of yogurt that my own homemade.

Curse you Pinterest!

3.
Wally Mart has all their aisles of garden seeds out for display and purchase. It was all I could do not to just buy a bunch of seed packets so that I could dream about gardening.

This is about the time of year when I get the itch to start planting things. An itch that can in no way be scratched for at least another 6-8 weeks at the VERY earliest.

And don’t tell LaurenLeap that I am have this urge because she will start trying to figure out how we can actually get out there and plant something and she will convince me and then we WILL be out there freezing our patooki (the plural of patookus) off.

But I had to actually BUY tomatoes from the store this week and they taste like cardboard and I have been longing for this…….

Life is difficult when you are a gardener and it is a dreary February day.

4.
I, or more precisely my colon is still recovering from the FoodaCheeseapalooza that we indulged in at LaurenLeap and The Tech Guy’s house while watching the Super Bowl.

We started with Cheese fondue, and cheese and crackers, and Jana’s Doo Dads. We then moved on to the meat fondue with excellent beef and chicken sizzling in hot oil and then anointed with all sorts of dipping sauces, all the while occasionally going back for more cheese and crackers. And the occasional fill up of the old wine glass.

And then we ended the night with Chocolate PEANUT BUTTER fondue.

Just take a moment to digest the thought…….Chocolate PEANUT BUTTER fondue.

It was like dipping strawberries in liquid Reeses Peanut Butter cups.

And what other deviltry did LaurenLeap do???? She also had Rice Krispies Treats squares to dip in the chocolate. Oh for all the saints that are holy and good!

My mind is still in a state of complete denial as to the astounding number of calories that I ingested in one 4 hour period.

5.
It is raining and VERY dreary today. We all know that I love rain and dreary days but what I don’t like is the way the snow begins to look all tired out and sort of dingy and dull. I am no great fan of snow. Which makes the fact that I live in the snow belt in the Frozen Northeast Ohio all the more ironic. But if the snow, as it melts, could just continue to retain it’s attractive whiteness and sparkleness, sort of like Edward Cullen, that would be very helpful to my overall attitude about snow.

Oh and if it could just be a tad bit less cold that would be great too.

I am such a Whiney McWhinerson

6.
I have given myself permission today to do whatever I want.

And isn’t it sad that I actually have to give myself permission to do that!

There is ironing that is crying to be attended to…..but not today.

There is cleaning and work that are pushing at the door to be done….but not today.

There are piles on my desk that must be gone through….but not this day.

This day I sloth!

7.
I have watched this multiple times this week. It is a bit long, around 15 minutes, but so incredibly worth it. And inspiring. SO very, very inspiring.

Have lots and lots of kleenex ready.

And then go to YouTube or Vimeo (it is up at both sites), grab the url and share the video. And if you are a photographer, as I am, then think about how you can help someone with the talent that the Lord has given you.

I certainly am.

*** And just as a bit of a warning, there are several shots of Jill’s breasts and the aftermath of what she has gone through. Some might find them disturbing. I find them inspiring.

But then that is just me.

  1. Funny that you would mention the garden. I was just reading about how to build a 5x5' greenhouse for under $25. I'll email you the link. It could be our very own cold frame. Think of the head start we could get on our first planting! Wanna do it? Huh, huh, huh? You KNOW that you want to!! (*evil laugh*)
