7 Quick Takes (Vol 271)

7_quick_takes_sm1

See #1 to explain why I am rushing to get these done. There is training ahead. You know what you must do. When you are done here you need to click on the picture above to be whisked, at the speed of my ever expanding to do list, over to Conversion Diary.

Blather that will see me through.

1.
Well, you never know what life is going to bring to you.

What life has brought to me is a part time job that has nothing to do with photography and everything to do with becoming the office admin/personal assistant for HHBL.

You just never know.

HHBL’s LONG time admin/personal assistant (almost 20 years) is leaving the position for another opportunity. He didn’t want to ask me to step in temporarily while they searched for a replacement, although I have done that in the past. He thought I could do the job but he didn’t want me to feel obligated to step in, even temporarily.  But as we were walking down to the local pub/watering hole last week to get some fish and pierogies I said that I might be interested in the job. It requires some extra steps because of the whole nepotism clause in the employee handbook but when queried everyone was on board with my hire.

And so the job is mine. My knees are knocking. There isn’t anything about this job that I cannot learn to do. I am of above average intelligence and like a challenge. But the thought of taking over from someone who has been doing this job for a long time and does everything without having to think  it through slowly to make sure she doesn’t miss a step is a daunting thing.

Wish me luck!

Oh, and because Max the Magnificent isn’t all that great about staying for 8 hours all by his lonesome……he is going to be coming to the office as well.

Kombucha. Have you had any of this stuff? Do you even know what it is? I had seen pictures of it, with that rather scary mother-like thing floating on the top and I had thought.

I. DON’T. THINK. SO.

Never say never my friends.

I love that I have friends that actually make Kombucha but that didn’t mean that I was going to try any of it. But on Tuesday my friend Cindie arrived at my house for Bible Study and in her hand was clutched a bottle of light green liquid.

Kombucha.

“Oh you are going to LOVE this stuff. It is totally addiciting…after you get used to it.”

Uh huh.

I took a whiff………VINEGAR! Nonononononononono!

I thanked Cindie kindly and quickly put that bottle in the lowest reaches of the refrigerator. I thought maybe I could conveniently forget about it. But it kept whispering to me as I would open the frig door. Sort of like Pooh’s tummy in Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day.

Psssssssst. I am here. Open me up and drink me.

Finally I couldn’t stand it and I poured myself a small, miniscule glass of the stuff……..it is good!!!! I have been sipping on it daily. It is fermented and has a light, sort of sour/sweet gingery flavor. I am not addicted yet but neither am I repelled.

I finally got out to pick a few blueberries yesterday. Since I was walking over at my old haunts with my old walking buddies I quickly zipped over to the place where I had always picked blueberries before. It was fairly slim pickings but that is my own fault because I have been procrastinating on getting it done. I picked several pounds worth….and paid about $7. The price can’t be beat.

There is another blueberry farm that is closer to Chez Knit and I am hoping to get there next week. Their blueberries were needing a bit more time to ripen up. This summer has been like that. And we have NO homegrown peaches in the area this year because of the winter weather we experienced. All the peaches are being brought in from Pennsylvania. That is disappointing.

But the blueberries are delicious.

4.
We all know that we have Netflix streaming here at Chez Knit. Oh how I love Netflix streaming.

Currently I am totally obsessed with watching the entire second season of…..

The Mind of a Chef

I stumbled on the first season of this show sometime last year and I was HOOKED. I ran through all 16 episodes in about 2 sittings and wanted more. It is on PBS so I could watch it that way but I can never remember when it is actually on and we do not have a DVR to record it so I missed out when Season 2 was showing.

Thank goodness for Netflix telling me that new episodes were now available.

I have gobbled up most of the second season in the past week or so. I only have 4 episodes to go and then I will have to wait.

I think I may have to go back through season one again.

Obsessed.

5.
Folks, if you are going to have a garage sale please do me this huge favor.

Do not have the garage sale when you have only one table of old and dirty items to sell and a dog that barks and growls when I walk up the driveway.

It wastes my time.

Stepping off my soap box now.

6.
The in-laws are arriving today for a visit. Let us hope that it does not rain this weekend (like it has almost every weekend this summer) as we have outdoor things planned.

Blossom

Baseball

perhaps a picnic

For AngAk – below is the link for my Salsa recipe. I am not sure why it wasn’t on the recipes page but I will rectify that ASAP

Salsa!

7.
And as usual I am too lazy to write a number 7 so here are some Instagram photos from this week.

Please forgive my perpetual laziness.

  1. I'd say you are WAY above average on the intelligence scale! Good luck with the new job. Sounds like fun.
