I Think I Will Take That Ornament Thankyouverymuch

It is the first Monday in December.

The snowmen are all assembled on the mantle piece. I keep thinking that I will put them someplace different every year but they always demand to be on the mantle and so I comply.

The various Nativitys (Nativities? Nativiti?) are up on the shelves. There are several to the left that didn’t get into the picture.

The Santas are all Ho Ho Ho in the dining room.

The Christmas tree is up, lighted and decorated. And can I just say that it was not a pleasant experience because when I went to decorate the thing yesterday I found that two of the strings of lights were only lighting for about half the bulbs. And because I wanted to get it all done yesterday that necessitated a trip to Wally Mart on a SUNDAY. Can I tell you how much I loathe going to Wally Mart on a Sunday. L.O.A.T.H.E.

I have become distracted. Where was I? Oh yes, all the decorations are up and festive.

And that means that…….

Tonight is the annual Orgy of Stealing Ornament Exchange. That time of the year when I stress out that I haven’t made enough food and that there is something that I have forgotten to do, like clean the bathroom (already done).

This year it is pouring rain. And I am very happy about that. This would be the 12th annual exchange that has been celebrated here at Chez Knit and during those years we have had a variety of weather.

There has been rain, like this year.

There has been relatively balmy weather, maybe once.

There has been snow. And sometimes there has been A LOT of snow. The first year that I started on this journey of madness it began to snow as ladies were arriving. And I don’t mean a gentle snow. I mean the stuff that is unique to the Frozen Northeast Ohio…..Lake Effect. The stuff that can come down at the rate of 2-4 inches an hour. And because of the length of our driveway everyone who arrives here by car likes to park on the street or the cul de sac. That is fine and dandy….except if it is snowing heavily.

It is an uncomfortable experience to be yelled at chastised by the city snowplow guy. Very uncomfortable.

But all is now in readiness. The food prep is almost all done. My kitchen floor is relatively clean if you don’t look too close. I am hoping that I have vacuumed up all the dog hair elephants. Oh I hope so.

And last but not least is the ornament that I give everyone who shows up. I am going to show you what I made this year. If you are attending the soiree now is the time to stop reading.

  1. Great ornament! It has such personality. Did your cartooning daughter do the face? If not, I see who she acquired the genes from.

  2. Well, I just got home from the stealing frenzy! Poor, poor Cheryl and Anita. I made off with the two cutest, weirdest little birds! And I ate way too much (as usual), but I just couldn't stop myself. Thank you Debbie!! (Oh, and it's a good thing I didn't see this blog before I left because I never would have been able resist peeking at the ornament you made. (Which IS adorable, by the way.)
