7 Quick Takes (Vol 97)

7_quick_takes_sm

Wow, another week has passed with lightening speed and as usual my life is so boring that I don’t know what to write for Quick Takes. But I will manage to dig deep in the scary recesses of my brain to give you a glimpse of the week here at Chez Knit. Just remember that after you are done here click on the picture above to be whisked, at the speed of the falling Congressional approval numbers, over to Conversion Diary to see what everyone else is up to.

1.
Because I have SO much to do these days….

I wasted a vast amount of time yesterday wandering around the blogosphere, looking at blogs, and then adding vast numbers of movies to my queue on Netflix.

Because, you know, I wouldn’t want to do anything CONSTRUCTIVE with my time.

I admit that I clicked on the “Next Blog” feature at the top of the page and then I just couldn’t stop. Read, click, read, click, read, click………

And I was struck by how many really, supremely boring or weird, or just plain lousy blogs there are. And then I got very nervous thinking that maybe I was one of those. And that someone would be wandering along the internet highway, take the exit here at Chez Knit, look around and then leave.

But there are also an equal number of blogs that I looked at that were fantastic, readable, humorous, wonderful. And then I got all worried that they were better blogs than mine and then all the old performance anxiety reared it’s ugly head and…..

Oh bloggy angst I don’t have time for you now!

2.
The first progeny has returned to the nest for the Christmas holiday. Shoe Queen arrived safe and sound from her place of higher learning, having driven the whole way (6 hours) by herself for the first time. I was only nervous a little bit.

Cartoon Girl arrives on Monday. Cartoon Girl’s roomie arrives on Wednesday. TMO and TSiL arrive on Thursday.

We are going to have a VERY full house for a few days.

And I can hardly wait.

3.
There is one week until Christmas and at this point I am wondering if I will survive all the things that still have to be done. Specifically things that have to be finished knitting wise. And I am making a tee shirt quilt for the daughter of a friend. That definitely has a due date.

I had no idea that tee shirt quilts were such a big thing at the moment. Evidently it has something to do with the Twilight series, which I have read, but never noticed anything about a tee shirt quilt. Can I tell you that I really HATE to be trendy or to seem like I am doing anything trendy. With the exception of my addiction to my technology gadgets of course. So when I mention it and people are all, “Oh, you mean like in Twilight?” I am quick to tell them that no, we have been making tee shirt quilts long before Stephanie Meyer wrote about it.

Maybe she stole the idea from my brain?

So the tee shirt quilt has to be done. And there are other things but I can’t talk about them because people whom they might be for read the blog.

And I am just hoping that I don’t lose my mind or break my arms or fingers before Dec 25th.

4.
I have not gotten anything to put in stockings yet.

And yes, even though the progeny are all adults we still do stockings. I hang them up about a week before Christmas, empty of course. And then all of a sudden they will start to bulge and every once in a while you will catch someone standing there groping the stocking trying to decide what is in it.

We always open them on Christmas Eve. And the stuff in them is always dumb.

But it is tradition.

5.
I have had a great deal of difficulty this year maintaining my journal and it is truly bugging me. I mean I really have no one to blame but myself. It is just pure laziness and general journaling malaise. I am not sure if it is tied to the fact that I blog more these days. That may be it.

But whatever the cause I am going to overcome it!

Also it is the fact that I went back to actually writing in the journal with a pen rather than keeping a document open on the computer that I wrote in periodically during the day and then printed out once a week and inserted in the journal. I know that seem like a lot of work but it actually worked pretty well for me. I type a lot faster than I write. And so I have gone back to the computer document. That way I can correct any mistakes that I make. That is much harder to do when you are using a pen on the paper.

6.
This is what I love about living in the woods. Even though I have a love/hate relationship with the rats with hooves deer I still get a thrill when I look out my bathroom window to see them sleeping in the woods. There were actually 4 of them scattered around the back ravine.

IMG_0972A IMG_0976AFor some reason I love it that they curl up just like Max does when he is sleeping.

Now if they would just stay out of the garden and away from my Hosta.

7.
It is time to pull out the Christmas movies. We watched White Christmas last night, Shoe Queen and I. I love it.

And then there is A Christmas Story which is really THE favorite.

And also there is Come To The Stable which none of my progeny like. That just shows that they have poor taste. Who wouldn’t want to watch a Christmas movie that has nuns driving army jeeps at breakneck speed.

I might also have to watch A Christmas Carol. I actually prefer the 1938 version with Reginald Owen. But the George C. Scott version is good too.

And I am sorry to say that I am probably one of the few people in the world who don’t love It’s a Wonderful Life. I don’t hate it but I don’t love it either.

Please don’t leave me because of it.

  1. Beautiful pictures.
We still do stockings and this year they may be very slim. It's hard to find stocking stuffers for adults that are fun and inexpensive.
