We all know that I love to cook and bake and eat. My daughters also love to cook and bake, some more than others but they are all proficient at what they need to do. It is gratifying to see it when it happens but sometimes I just have to step away from the scene of the crime because.....well, you can see below what happens.....mess and chaos followed by calm and beauty. Sort of like a hurricane without all the rain and wind.
The Engaged One spent Saturday afternoon baking a cake for the engagement party of her friend Miss Alison. I stayed out of the way. There were large knives involved and every surface was covered with something.
Oh yeah, um did I mention that not only was every surface covered with baking debris but the sink was overflowing. And of course all the dishes in the dishwasher were clean. Where is my dishwasher emptying person?
Ahhh, you see there are some benefits from having someone baking a cake in your kitchen. There are pieces of cake that are left over when the top tier has been sculpted.
Ummmmmmm, cake with extra frosting on it. Oh my mouth is watering just thinking about it.
Oh yeah, all those years of watching Ace of Cakes has paid off, she knows how to roll out and use fondant.
But in the end, after all the mess (which I offered to clean up) and chaos, there emerged a thing of beauty. Well done Oh Engaged One. Of course, she did such a good job that Miss Alison wants her to make the wedding cake too. Yikes.
Only thing better would have been CHOCOLATE cake.
ReplyDeleteYou just had to show that cake. And me with NO cake anywhere in sight. Not even a cakey donut to be had!!! Excuse me, gotta go. Um, no, I'm not running out to the store to get cake. Really, why would I do that?
ReplyDeleteOh Chrisknits, we have EXTRA cake at home that we need to eat up.
ReplyDeleteYou just gave me the biggest craving...that cake looks divine!!! Thanks (or NOT!) for sharing. :o)

Beautiful cake!
ReplyDeleteTHAT is impressive. Fondant makes me want to curl up in a little ball under my kitchen table and hum 'you are my sunshine' until the thought of easy ol' buttercream comes to my rescue.
ReplyDeleteMeg has your hands, Mom :D
