My childhood just keeps slipping away. Sigh.
Andy Griffith, otherwise known as Sherriff Andy Taylor, died today at the age of 86. I am sure that some of you are going Who was Sherriff Andy Taylor? I thought Andy Griffith played Matlock!
He did but who cares about that show. It was “The Andy Griffith Show”, or really the reruns of that show, that were an integral part of my growing up years.
I wouldn’t know who The Dillards were if not for The Andy Griffith Show! The world would be a much sadder and humorless place without that.
Pilot Man and I had limited TV viewing privileges when we were growing up. I think it was like an hour a day or something like that. So we were very careful about what we chose to watch in our precious hour. It usually consisted of a rerun that was on in the afternoon.
Hogan’s Heroes perhaps.
Or maybe The Dick Van Dyke show.
I Dream of Jeannie might also have been in the rotation.
But the favorite was always The Andy Griffith Show. And what would my life be now without some of my more favorite phrases that came right from this show.
Oh Paw, can’t I even look at the purrty man?
Nip it! Nip it! Nip it in the bud!
Your words say no. But your eyes say yes.
Just jump in when ya kin and hang on!
I’ll make you a fine husband. I’m a little mean but I make up for it by bein’ REALY healthy
And because of the beauty that is YouTube I can watch endless episodes of The Andy Griffith Show.
I may not get anything else done today because I am going to have to indulge in some of my favorite episodes.
Thank you Andy Griffith for so many hours of humor and memories.
I had no idea he died. That really is sad. I keep a list of those guys that are still alive in the back of my head (Dick Van Dyke, Tim Conway, etc. are on it). Andy was too. Ugh. I'm going to go be sad for a while.
