I Will Prevail Darnit!

Today these are my friends, my companions, my weapons to wage my yearly war.
My or should I say our war against the interlopers, the intruders, the messers of our lawn.......

The Leaves

Oh don't let the pretty picture fool you. They have a plan, these leaves. They plan to take over the lawn. They plan to fall all pretty and colorful onto the soft carpet of the grass, say hello to their fellow growing things and then form a strangling and killing mass that will take over my world. Don't think they aren't planning it because they are. Leaves are sneaky like that. They lull you in with all their "benefits", you know all the prettiness and coolness in the summer. The lovely sound that they make when the wind blows gently through them, all the time planning their nefarious plot.

We have lots of leaves because we have these, lots of these. Don't get me wrong, I love the trees. I love the way that the light shines through them and that they shade our house in the summer. I love that they shelter the owls as they keep me up at night and that the birdies sit in their branches and wake me at O dark hundred. But.......I don't like the leaves on the lawn.

I was blowing, blowing, blowing .......and then I saw these really cool mushrooms growing up between the stone steps amongst the Corsican mint. And so I had to go and get my camera and take a picture of them.

And then as I went back to blowing the dreaded leaves I saw that underneath were tons of mushrooms, toadstools whatever they are. So I had to go and get my camera and take pictures of them.

And then I got to looking at the leaves that were left on the grass and saw this cool one. Look at the neat droplets of water. So cool. So I had to go and get my camera and take pictures of them.

And then I noticed that one of my primroses was actually blooming again. They tend to do this in the late Fall when the temperature cools. So I had to go and get my camera and take pictures of them.

And then I realized that it was snowing.

Yes, I said it was snowing.

If you think that is unusual then you have never been in Northeast Ohio in November. It sometimes snows in October and when that happens I cry. But I digress...

I realized that it was snowing so I went back to what I was supposed to be doing in the first place. Taking care of these. After I had been working for close to three hours and was around half way done I decided that it would be good for me to let HHBL take care of the last half of the leaves. I mean, I know that he WANTED to and I didn't want to deprive him of that special time with the leaves. So I went inside and had a cup of tea and played with pictures.

It was the right thing to do.

  1. Great photos! You know if you don't look out the window, you can't see the leaves and they go away. Uh-huh, really. There is no sea of yellow, quickly turning brown, leaves around my house. Nope. None whatsoever.

  2. Those pictures are amazing.

I really don't think I have ever seen that many leaves on the ground. Really. Not round here.
