7 Quick Takes (Vol 43)

Hello! Good Morning! Howya Doin'? Here we go with my Quick Takes. To quote Calvin and Hobbes (the best cartoon evah, well that and Bloom County), "The days just fly by."

-1-
I am totally addicted to this site let me tell you. Make It and Love It is like crack for crafters. Now if I could just find another 5 - 6 hours in the day to do all the projects that I want to. Check out the Mod Podge shoes idea. This idea may just require me to actually go out and find some flats just so that I can cover them with some outrageous fabric that says, "LOOK AT ME!!!!! LOOK AT MEEEEEEEEEE!" Because we all know it is all about me and my funny feet.

OK, I think really old little old ladies in jeans are just about the cutest thing in the world, ESPECIALLY if her husband with her also has jeans on. Oh be still my beating heart. I saw the cutest couple when I was at Target, they both had jeans on, they both looked to be about 200 years old and they were just so cute. AND they were holding hands. Can I just melt into a gooey little puddle right in the Target parking lot.

-3-
This is just one of the funniest things I have seen recently. Consider it your humor for the day.

Don't you just love it when something that you try on the fly actually works and works well? It just gives me the thrills let me tell you.

Do you know what this is?
This my hungry friends in pepperoni bread. And let me tell you......it was goooooooood. I was messing around in the kitchen yesterday afternoon and wondering what I would make for dinner. HHBL had a meeting and that means that I could experiment to my hearts content.

Hmmmmmmm, what's in the old refrigerator? I have some pepperoni, I have some mozzarella. I suppose that I could make a quick pizza. I should tell you now that I keep homemade pizza dough in the freezer (recipe coming next week). But I didn't want to open a jar of pizza sauce so that idea was a no go.

Hmmmmmmm, I have a little bit of bread dough left from my latest batch of "Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day" (you NEED this book), I suppose that I could make something with that.

And then the light went on, and I went to work, and produced Pepperoni Bread. I wish I could share it with you. And I have to admit that I ate almost half the loaf.

I hang my head in shame......but it was goooooooood.

The weather "person" used the dreaded S word yesterday. NO not THAT S word. The one that we here in the frozen north dread more than any other.........S....N...O...W. She had the audacity to say that we might have a snow shower or two tomorrow. It is the middle of October for the love of Pete. What do you mean it might flurry!!!

Oh you who live in sunny California (Dandy, Elle) or lovely warm Texas (Lauren, Chelsea) don't know how we dread it, the snow word. And when the weather "person" tells us that it is predicted to be an unusually harsh winter then.....then.....then I run and make sure that I have Mark all signed up to plow my driveway. Around here a harsh winter might very well bring 130+ inches of snow and that isn't good. One year I saw the first snow flurries in the middle of October and the last on the first of MAY.

I also need to write myself a note to pick up some of that stuff that melts the ice off the front walk. Rats.

The dog is staring at me and trying to take over my mind. He thinks he should be fed. It is not time to eat. We do this every morning and afternoon without fail. If I just ignore him he will sigh and go and lie down in a huff. But it is nerve wracking to have a dog just stand there and stair at you for a full minute or more. I don't know if it is the Border Collie in him but he is persistent, relentless, annoying with this ability. I am the human, I have the opposable thumbs, I can resist this. But it just makes me crazy. If you have a dog does he/she do this?

-7-
Do you know what this is? It is Homemade Vanilla Extract. It is liquid gold. Just the smell of it sends me into raptures of baking frenzy. If you come back next week sometime I will tell you how to make it. It is so supremely easy that if the vanilla manufacturers knew I was going to tell you how to do it they would put a stop to it. Who wants to pay all that money for a teeny, tiny bottle of something that you can make at home with very little effort on your part. Well, you do have to go to a liquor store but other than that it was a great experience.

Ta Ta For Now (as Tigger would say). See you next week.

  1. I do believe that those snow flurries in Oct. and May was in 93.That year was a horrible cold winter.o not be working this winter--but I am sure I will be going out plenty for this chemo thingie. Ah well--can't have it all. The only thing that keeps me in Ohio is my family--they all stayed and I'm not leaving.
